Whether you've had psychotherapy in the past, or if this will be your first experience, I welcome and applaud you for investing in yourself. Your desire for healing, growth, and positive change is attainable. Personal growth is no easy feat! Doing so takes courage and dedication! Being a woman who benefited from psychotherapy as a young adult to the experienced therapist I am today, I relate to the feelings that accompany the choice of looking inward in effort to heal and experience personal growth. One of the most important aspects of therapy is having a strong therapeutic relationship with the therapist. This means being able to develop trust and build a connection with your therapist. Clients have told me my therapy style puts them at ease, feels conversational versus overtly clinical, and helps them quickly get to the core of their struggles.
I'll help you heal from traumatic events, toxic relationships, painful losses, and overcome challenges in life. We will work closely together, so you can meet your therapeutic goals in a timely manner. You'll gain insights about how painful life experiences have impacted you. I'll gently help you explore your feelings, learn how to better handle difficult situations, and how to manage critical self-talk, while increasing your sense of self-confidence and self-love. Over the years I've helped hundreds of women do just that! I started my career over a decade ago exclusively helping women overcome and heal from domestic violence, sexual assault, and emotional abuse. Since then I've worked with male and female combat veterans who struggle with PTSD, generalized anxiety, depression, and grief.
The nature of my work, along with specialized training, has lead me to develop an in depth understanding of how the dynamics of power and control, systemic oppression, and psychological trauma impacts a woman's day to day life. What inspired me to start West Coast Women's Empowerment Therapy was hearing time and time again that the therapy community lacked clinicians who are both skilled in the treatment of psychological trauma and have a full understanding of the dynamics of intimate partner abuse and sexism in our society impacts women's mental health. I wanted to help fill that gap by offering my services to women who would benefit from a therapist who understands these nuances.
The therapy approaches I use are evidenced-based. I've had extensive training in each of them and been working with clients full time since 2010. I look forward to hearing from you! I can provide a brief consultation so we can decide if I'd be a good fit for you, as your therapist or coach.

The term evidenced-based or evidenced-based practice refers to therapeutic approaches that have been scientifically shown to make a positive and statistically significant difference in client outcomes. For an approach to be considered evidenced-based extensive research must be completed which demonstrates that the approach is effective for desired therapeutic outcomes.

West Coast Women's Empowerment Therapy does not bill insurance; however documentation can be provided that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Be sure to check with your insurance company to find out if they will provide you reimbursement. Payment is due at time of service. Services are through a HIPPA compliant secure Telehealth platform.

After obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Social Welfare and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Washington, she completed additional training at the same university in the assessment and treatment of psychological trauma. Malissa is trained in several evidenced-based therapies including a gold standard trauma focused therapy called Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).
In addition to providing therapy, Malissa has developed support groups for women and children who are healing from emotional and physical abuse along with training's for community service providers about domestic violence. She's trained healthcare professionals in the prevention of workplace violence and served as a consultant to mental health professionals around the dynamics of interpersonal violence.
Malissa was raised in the state of Washington and relocated to Southern California in 2015. Most recently she started West Coast Women’s Empowerment Therapy which offers online therapy (Telehealth) & coaching.
